Homemade Deodorizer Spray

I love walking into a house and instantly smelling something fresh and clean but unfortunately, many store-bought sprays are filled with toxins, artificial scents and typically only cover up smells for a short period of time. While we love our indoor dog, our house can sometimes smell like a dog so by making our own home deodorizer spray I know exactly what is in the bottle and know it’s safe for everyone in our family. Plus its super inexpensive!

By using essential oils, you are also getting therapeutic benefits while you spray and they support killing odor causing bacteria instead of simply masking bad smells.

Homemade Deodorizer Spray:

  • 16 oz Glass Bottle
  • 1 part Witch Hazel or Vodka
  • 3 parts Distilled Water
  • 20 drops Purification

Directions: Combine ingredients, shake well and spray! Remember to shake before each use. I use a bigger spray bottle because I use this one everything so if you want to make a bigger or smaller, adjust ratios accordingly.

I love to spray floor rugs, carpet, curtains, throw pillows/blankets, dog kennel, shoes, gym bags, car carpet, fabric couches and the air!

Sleepy Spray Recipe

Some days when I’m running on fumes & have restless legs, I need an extra boost of relaxation at bedtime. I enjoy using my diffuser throughout the evening & at bedtime but sometimes I just need something to sniff! This recipe is great to spray on your bed sheets, pillows & pajamas right as you’re crawling into bed. It promotes relaxation & restful sleep. Because I make mine in a small bottle, it’s convenient to pack along when traveling or spending the night at someone else’s house. If you’re like me, I never sleep great in someone else’s house or hotel, so I’ve found my oils to help calm me down.

Sleep Spray Recipe:

  • 15 drops Lavender
  • 15 drops Cedarwood
  • 15 drops Vetiver
  • 1 ½ tablespoons of Witch Hazel (or vodka)
  • Distilled Water

Directions: Add essential oils & witch hazel to a 4oz glass spray bottle. Top off with distilled water. Shake well before use. Spray on bedding (sheets, pillows, ect.) before going to bed.

Poo Poo Po Pourii Recipe

This recipe seriously makes me laugh and I wish I had it a long time ago. No one wants to smell a stinky bathroom after someone has went number two, especially when the bathroom is right off the kitchen or connected to a bedroom you have to share with someone else so this Poo-Poo-Po-Pourii is great for those not–so-great located bathrooms, public bathrooms, work bathrooms… you name it!

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 20 drops Lemongrass
  • 20 drops Bergamot
  • 20 drops Grapefruit
  • 2 tbsp. Witch Hazel (you could sub this for rubbing alcohol or vodka)
  • 4 oz Glass Spray Bottle
  • Distilled Water

Directions: Add essential oils and witch hazel to spray bottle. Top off with distilled water and shake well. To use, shake and spray in toilet BEFORE you go to the bathroom. The trick to this operation is to spray the toilet water before you go, not after! The mixture should help stop the stink before it hits the air!

Another toilet tip: For those who hate public bathrooms/hotel bathrooms, bring Thieves Spray with you! Spray the toilet, toilet handle, sink, tabletops, door handles, ect. Thieves wipes are also great when you’re on the go! Two words: Grocery. Carts. (umm, ick!)

Natural Bug Spray

Last night I had my first mosquito bite of the year. I have been waiting for it to finally be nice outside and now that yesterday was the first warm, 70-degree-Spring-is-finally-here day, I was bite several times by mosquitoes! They have hatched with a vengeance. The worst part of it, I was sitting on my couch relaxing after a day of shopping with a toddler. He usually is a great shopper but today, he was not having it. We had a few meltdowns because I would not let him crawl under the dressing room door. Let’s just say, I was sweating after trying on clothes / chasing him around the dressing room. I’m just glad he wasn’t the only kid & I wasn’t the only mom running around like a crazy person. Anyways, when we got home, I opened all the windows to let the fresh air in and Jase & Allie (our dog) thought it was great to play by the screen door and they must have cracked it a bit. I was catching up on all my TGIT shows (yes I LOVE Grey’s & Scandal!) and all of a sudden I was being eaten by THREE different mosquitoes, GRRR! I hate these buggers. I am such a baby because they love me (they don’t seem to bother my husband and it makes me so jealous) and I hate the smell of store bought mosquito spray. Not only does the smell bother me but the chemicals in the spray are what really make me cringe. I’d rather be bitten than wear that spray so I am SO glad I found an all-natural recipe that I don’t feel gross wearing (and that actually works!). Last summer, I would often mix Purification with coconut oil and rub it out my arms and legs if I knew I was going to be working in the yard that day & didn’t necessarily need the spray. That seemed to help ward off the mosquitoes if I was in a shaded area. But I seriously could have used the spray last night! I had bugs everywhere and diffused Purification in my bedroom hoping they wouldn’t come get me in my sleep. I guess I will have to make a new bug spray bottle today since I think the weather is finally looking up & I am hoping to spend a lot of time outside this weekend!
